The Sydney Roosters extended their winning streak to eight as they extinguished a second half comeback from the last placed Newcastle Knights.
The Roosters travelled to Hunter Stadium, Newcastle and opened the game with a clinical display of attack and jumped to a 26-0 lead by half time. The visitors were relentless in attack and posted three tries in the last ten minutes of the first half with Roosters superstar fullback, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck in the thick of it scoring twice in four minutes. In the 37th minute, Roosters interchange, Kane Evans was shocked as he chased a sky-rocketing bomb from young halfback, Jackson Hastings. Newcastle Knights winger, Nathan Ross let the ball bounce straight into his arms and the No. 16 ran and fell over the line.
The second half, the Sydney Roosters picked up where they left off with a briliiant across the face cut out ball by James Maloney hitting a flying Daniel Tupou in their own half. Tupou found space and floated the ball back in to find his team mate, Tuivasa-Sheck, which saw the New Zealand international secure his hat-trick. 32-0.
The Roosters looked comfortable and switched off as the home side found some determination to play and posted four unanswered tries giving the troubled team a sniff at an upset with the knights coming within 10 points.
The unlikely comeback was wiped out as Man of the Match Maloney carved the knights defence to secure the win for the high flying Roosters.
With only four rounds left of the regular season the Sydney Roosters are within two points of the competition leaders leaving the minor premiership race wide open. The tri-colours will square off against the Parramatta Eels at Allianz Stadium next Saturday night.
